Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers stated they were contacted by a individual who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

City officials stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.

A high-ranking official said the attack made him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
